Getting Started
The Daily Brief App is an app that provides you with a custom daily briefing of the weather, your calendar, reminders, sports, news, almanac data, horoscope, and this day in history.
The Daily Brief App is available as an app through the Apple App Store.

To use the navigation, tap the hamburger menu in the top right hand corner. This will quick link you to the different sections in the brief. You can also access the Settings page in this menu.
To return from the Settings page back to the brief, click the back arrow in the top left hand corner of the page.
Enabling Calendars, Reminders and Notifications
When you open the Daily Brief App, you will be asked to allow certain permissions:
- Permission to allow access to Calendars
- Permission to allow access to Reminders
- Permission to allow Notifications
To use these features, please accept these permissions. If you need to adjust your permissions, you can do so in the device’s settings.
Brief Sections
The Daily Brief App includes the following content sections.
- Today’s Date
- Day of the Year with Days Remaining
- National and Fun Holidays
- Weather Outlook
- Calendar
- Reminders
- News
- Sports
- Alfred’s Almanac
- Horoscope
- This Day in History
- Tomorrow
You can hide and show each section individually by going to the Daily Brief App’s settings and switching the toggles for each section.
The Weather Outlook includes today’s weather report as well as as a 3-day outlook.
The Calendar provides a tick tock of your schedule, using the calendars you’ve selected. To toggle a calendar on or off, go to the Daily Brief App’s settings and switch the toggle next to the desired calendar.
Reminders shows reminders due and overdue today.
News includes four curated news reports delivered throughout the day. Each edition focuses on a variety of domestic, international, cultural, and entertainment news.
- The Alfred Morning Chronicle (Early Edition)
- The Alfred Daily Record (Morning Edition)
- The Alfred Afternoon Post (Afternoon Edition)
- The Alfred Daily Dispatch (Evening Edition)
Sports includes a summary of teams you follow, yesterday and today’s box scores, and today’s remaining games.
Alfred’s Almanac is a daily almanac entry, astrological information (sunrise, sunset, daylight hours, nightlight hours, difference of daylight from yesterday, current moon phase, days until the next full moon, ecliptic longitude, and earth-sun distance. The almanac also includes a gardening summary, the remaining days in the season, and an In the Stars footnote.
The horoscope includes a daily horoscope for all signs, lucky numbers, and outlines our current Zodiac sign and characteristics.
This day in history is an article about an historical event on this day in history. It includes an article and historical analysis.
Tomorrow’s outlook includes your calendar, tomorrow’s weather, and the the reminders due tomorrow.
Settings + Customization
You can customize your Daily Brief for a personalized experience. Any adjustment to the default settings are stored locally on each device. This is so that you can have a personalized experience unique to each instance you are using.
The following personalizations may be made:
- Location – City + State (longitude and latitude is then generated to use as your location)
- News preferences
- Sports teams preferences
- Astrological Sign
Schedule
You can set a notification to download and prompt you to read your daily brief. To use this feature you must enable notifications. A prompt will appear the first time you open the app. If you need to adjust your notifications, go to your device’s settings > notifications > Daily Brief and select the toggle for ‘Allow Notifications’.

Subscription to the Daily Brief
The Daily Brief App is available for free for a 2-Day trial. After the introductory period, Alfred is accessible through a 99¢/month or $9.99/year subscription.
Subscribing
The Daily Brief App comes with a 7-Day free trial so you can check out its features. At the end of the trial, you will be charged a monthly or annual subscription fee, depending on your selection at the trial subscription. You will be able to cancel anytime. To cancel, navigate to your device’s App Store subscriptions.
On the App’s first launch, you will be provided with the 7-Day trial. If you need to restore a previous purchase, click on the ‘Restore Purchases’ link. When prompted to start the free trial, you will be asked to log into your Apple Store account, or use a passkey to approve the trial period and subscription.
If you cancel the subscription before the trial period is over, you will not be charged.
